The Short Story
... isn't all that short. But I'll try.
I started podcasting on October 14, 2004. According to Podcast Alley, I hosted the 40th podcaster ever. I’m also the co-author of Podcasting for Dummies and Expert Podcasting Practices for Dummies. I launched and managed a network of over 700 audiobooks released in serialized podcast form. I’ve spent over a decade in or adjacent to the C-Suite in marketing departments or digital agencies focused on new media and innovation. Today, I launch podcasts for professional service providers and businesses who want to make shows that lead to measurable business results.
Yes, I still podcast. For fun and to get people thinking about the future of podcasting, rather than focusing on it's past.
Podcast & Media Consulting
If you're looking for someone who can give as solid advice as he can edit an audio track, I can help.
Strategic Media Consulting
I've been deeply involved with new media as a business model for over a decade. I can help level-set your expectations and align your content to your existing (or desired) brand. And yes, I'll do a free initial call to make sure we're right for each other.
Podcast Launch Services
Specific to podcasting, I've launched a suite of services designed for those who want to focus more on content than the technical aspects of podcasting. From launch and ongoing production, to hosting and generating outstanding show notes, I'll make sure your podcast runs smoothly while you focus on being the best host you can be.
Strategic Digital Consulting
Recovering Advertising C-Suite Executive
I was thrust into the online advertising world back in 1999 when it was hard -- very hard -- to spend $500K annually. But after working with partners like Google and Yahoo to tailor their offerings, my company managed to do so. After a few years, I made the switch from client to agency side, spending a decade first as VP and Managing Director of a boutique NYC-based agency and then VP of Media and Innovation for a large, full-service Phoenix-based agency.
Futurism
Perhaps it's my dedication to living left of the technology adoption lifecycle, but I've a decent track record of predicting The Next Big Thing. Professional content's eventual dominance of podcasting. Twitter as a valuable communication tool. Google's continual attack on SEOs and disintermediation of ad agencies. Just don't ask me who's going to win next year's World Cup!
Hedgefund Consulting
Because I stay up to speed on a variety of emerging platforms, I'm often called by various hedge fund managers before they make big investments. My job isn't to tell them whether or not they should or should not invest, but to give a from-the-frontlines perspective of emerging trends, discuss possible adoption hurdles, and dissect the competitive landscape.
Mentorship/Advisory Boardmember
I sit on (or have sat on) the board or provide mentorship services for select, promising startups and industry groups. From travel to publishing, media to commerce, I provide a fresh (and often contrarian) outlook, give honest feedback, and push them to refine and grow their product, influence, or marketshare.
Entrepreneurship & Innovation
Part entrepreneur and part enabler, my varied personal and professional career have had a common theme: Innovation and a strong desire to break the status quo.
Big Bounce
Chief Disruption Officer
As Chief Disruption Officer of Big Bounce, I helped early stage entrepreneurs figure out their business model, and mid-stage startups figure out if they were a real company (or just an expensive hobby.)
PHX Startup Week
Chair
In partnership with Up Global, I led the creation of Phoenix Startup Week, a week-long celebration of entrepreneurship and innovation in Arizona.
PodcampAZ
Co-Chair
For three years, I was the Co-Chair of Podcamp AZ, growing the event to become the third largest in the country, attracting attendees and speakers well beyond Arizona.
Startup Founder
Founder
I've personally been a founder of six different startups: three in publishing, one in media, one in finance, and one in travel & tourism. None of them made me rich, but all of them taught me valuable lessons that I apply every day.
Professional Speaker
I'm an energetic and engaging speaker, with a rich history of presenting thought-providing lectures, keynotes, and workshops on many stages around the world. Here's just a partial list:
Nordic Bloggers' Experience 2017
Opening Keynote: Future of Travel
TBEX Asia Pacific 2016

Bibliography
I've been involved in publishing since 2002, but wrote my first "For Dummies" book in 2005. Since then, my name graces the spine of two other books in that series and I've fully embraced the indie publishing spirit, having successfully self-published three non-fiction titles.
Interesting Facts About Me
Because work/life/play balance is important, right?
Radio/Podcast Host
BeerDiet
For fun, I lived on nothing but beer and sausage for a whole month. For science, I documented everything and analyzed the results. And then I wrote a book about it, dispelling some common myths about "diets" in general.
Year Abroad
In 2015, my wife and I sold everything we owned to travel the world for a year. Fourteen countries later, we found ourselves happily living the expat nomadic lifestyle in Southeast Asia.
In April 2018, I returned to Phoenix to focus full-time on building Simpler Media. Oh, and to become a grandfather. Woot!
